Tulsa man to run across Mongolia in support of country's orphans - Financial and Business News - MENAFN: "Jul 13, 2013 (Menafn - Tulsa World - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --A Tulsa man plans to run the entire length of Mongolia -- 1,500 miles -- to raise awareness about the plight of orphans there and money to help them.
Brian Hunter, 39, left Tulsa on Monday and will begin his run next week from the Russian border in the far western corner of Mongolia to the eastern border with China.
His wife and two young children will accompany him in a support vehicle.
The family will camp each night on the 60-day expedition.
Hunter will run 30 miles a day -- more than a marathon -- six days a week, and will take one day of rest.
"When I first heard about Mongolia, it was about two guys who were riding motorcycles around the world," he said at his south Tulsa home.
"It captured my heart. I thought it would be cool to do a trail run in Mongolia. Then I thought why not run across the whole country?"
