Shaman: Mongolia provided me with more opportunities than France did | Ubpost News

Shaman: Mongolia provided me with more opportunities than France did | Ubpost News: "You may have heard his music in several clubs in Ulaanbaatar, or maybe over the radio. And yet, seven years ago, DJ Shaman had never been to Mongolia. He started turning tables when disco began. Several years later, after having settled in Ulaanbaatar for quite some time, he has prepared a new album made up of different genres, representative of his work so far.
He received me in his apartment and laughed at me for having a notebook and a pen in my hand. This meeting was to be too casual for taking notes. He took me through a journey of his songs and playlists of the past few years. What I found was music that was a blend of different genres, creating something quite unique, somewhere between France and Asia. This is not that surprising, considering his own Eurasian origins: he has a German-Swiss grandfather, a Vietnamese grandmother, a Cambodian father and a French mother. His background pushed him to travel and work in several countries, including France, Malta, Greece, Portugal, Macedonia, Cambodia, Dubai, Japan, China and now Mongolia."

Sas Carey takes readers on a trip through Mongolia | Addison County Independent

Sas Carey takes readers on a trip through Mongolia | Addison County Independent: "Sas Carey is in Mongolia trying not to buy a drum. It is a shaman’s drum, made with three-year-old female deer skin with a sheep’s tail beater. It is perfect, but she is running out of money and she has told herself and her friends she is not going to buy it.

She lies in bed sleepless. Her heart beats. She feels desire. She tells herself she is not going to buy the drum."

British man becomes Mongolian shaman | Ubpost News

British man becomes Mongolian shaman | Ubpost News: "By Cooper Baltis
A typical evening for Paul Diamond can include any number of things: an Indian fire ritual, yoga, a puja to Green Tara, a conversation about dream conceptualization, chi gong, a guided meditation, or a South American shamanic ritual. For the last twenty years, Mr. Diamond has traveled the world studying religion, mysticism, and indigenous shamanic practices. In September he arrived in Mongolian to study Mongolia shamanism. What happened next was frighteningly rapid and virtually unheard of: Paul was took an ancestor spirit in the Mongolian tradition.
It isn’t the first time Paul has brought forth a strange and exciting spirit. Years ago, he studied voodoo shamanism in Haiti. After an intense ritual of animal sacrifice, Paul was able to bring forth an African spirit named Legba. Legba is a door opening spirit, meaning that he has the power to open doors for those who call upon him. Doors of success, wealth, love are at one’s disposal but Legba is no fool, and is very hesitant to open a door without a good purpose behind it."

Halloween and Mongolian Shamanism | Ubpost News

Halloween and Mongolian Shamanism | Ubpost News: "Similarities with Mongolian Shamanism
According to researcher and writer Heike Michel, many Mongolians, like the Celts of the British Isles, have believed that the soul of the deceased could return to this realm; And, like the Celts, the ancient Mongolians took precautions against impure and evil spirits that might return. Let us, now, compare these ancient beliefs and we shall see that there are ancient ties between the East and the West.
Fire to Combat Evil
Anciently, bon fires were set just prior to sundown to scare away evil spirits. Americans do not do this, but England seems to have carried on the tradition, only changing the name to Guy Fawkes Day, and therefore changing the meaning of the holiday all together."
