Mongolia seeks Orkhon River dam construction study including hydropower - Pennenergy: "The project is aimed at constructing a dam and reservoir on the Orkhon River to secure water supply for mining operations in Mongolia's Southern Gobi region. In the area of additional benefits, the study is to include the feasibility of building a hydroelectric project.
Mongolia already is studying the feasibility of building the 300-MW Shuren hydroelectric project on the Selenge River. Mongolia's Energy Research and Development Center awarded a contract in 2007 to Poyry of Finland to serve as owner's engineer for construction of the 210-MW Egiin hydroelectric project on the Egiin River. The following year, consultants were recruited to help Mongolia develop an internationally consistent renewable energy development framework.
