Mongolian cinema: changed for better or worse?: "Films are one of the most important and celebrated arts in the modern world. They can teach us new perspectives and show us the opinions of others. They can make us cry, laugh and even terrify us: it is entertainment in its most unbound form. Modern day film was first developed and shown in the late 19th century during the Industrial Revolution, beginning with silent movies. Films can be a very entertaining but also a serious teacher; sometimes even aggressive, in terms of morals and education.
Filmmaking shows and illustrates the unique timeframe and culture of the point in history in which it was made. For example, films of Charlie Chaplin showed a great deal of the differences between the rich and poor in the US, while Mongolian classic films are generally about heroism and some of them had strong socialist themes.
