Softbank to Start Wind Power Generation in Gobi Desert - Power Engineering: "Tokyo, March 10 (Jiji Press)--Softbank Corp. said Saturday it will tie up with Mongolian investment firm Newcom Group and Korea Electric Power Corp. in order to start a wind power generation project in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia.
Softbank believes the collaboration will be the first step toward realizing its "Asia supergrid" initiative of linking Asian countries with undersea cables for efficient management of electricity supply and demand in the region.
The Japanese Internet and telecommunications conglomerate aims to transmit electricity to Japan in the future, officials said.
Under the tie-up, Softbank will provide technologies for solar and wind power generation undertaken by a subsidiary."
