Mongolia, Japan call for development of “strategic partnership” - NZweek

Mongolia, Japan call for development of “strategic partnership” - NZweek: "ULAN BATOR, March 30 — Mongolian Prime Minister Norov Altanhuyag held talks with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on Saturday, and both sides pledged to develop a “strategic partnership” between the two countries.

Abe’s visit to Mongolia was the first by a Japanese prime minister in nearly seven years, Altanhuyag said.

He added that the visit would be of great significance to the two countries’ cooperation in the next few years.

Abe said Japan would deepen cooperation with Mongolia on the basis of the principles of “democracy, peace and mutual assistance.”

The Japanese prime minister said he was willing to work with his Mongolian counterpart to user in a new period for bilateral ties.

According to local media, Abe’s visit is aimed at strengthening energy cooperation with Mongolia, which has rich mineral and energy sources, as Japan needs more coal and other fuel resources to meet its power shortage due to nuclear plants suspension after a catastrophic nuclear disaster triggered by tsunami in March 2011."
