Tokyo, Pyongyang agree to more talks on abduction issue - AJW by The Asahi Shimbun: "ULAN BATOR--Japanese and North Korean officials concluded two days of official talks here on Nov. 16, with an agreement to hold another meeting "as soon as possible" over issues that include Pyongyang’s abductions of Japanese nationals.

The Japanese delegation was led by Shinsuke Sugiyama, director-general of the Foreign Ministry’s Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau. His North Korean counterpart in the talks in the Mongolian capital was Song Il Ho, ambassador in charge of diplomatic normalization talks with Japan.

Both sides confirmed they will seek to resolve bilateral issues and work toward an eventual normalization of diplomatic ties on the basis of the 2002 Japan-North Korea Pyongyang Declaration.

The North Korean officials did not call on Japan to relax or lift its economic sanctions on Pyongyang, according to a Japanese Foreign Ministry source."
