Aussie lawyer quizzed over Mongolian corruption | ABC Radio Australia

Aussie lawyer quizzed over Mongolian corruption | ABC Radio Australia: "Lawyer Sarah Armstrong, 32, is working in the country for a company controlled by Rio Tinto.

She was detained at the airport in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar.

As chief legal counsel to SouthGobi Resources, she has been asked about any knowledge she has of bribery and tax evasion.

The attache of the Mongolian embassy in Canberra, Hantulga Galaazagraa, says Ms Armstrong is a witness in a case where SouthGobi is alleged to have not paid enough tax.

"Ms Sarah Armstrong was asked not to leave the country because she might be the witness to the case and she was thought to be the closest witness to this tax issue case," he said.

But some in SouthGobi say Ms Armstrong is being harassed as payback for corruption allegations she made earlier regarding Mongolian officials."
