Judge orders illegally sold Tyrannosaurus Bataar to be returned to Mongolia - National science news | Examiner.com: "In 2010, a 24-foot long Tyrannosaurus Bataar fossil, sold for more than $1 million by Texas based Heritage Auctions in New York amid controversy. The fossil dinosaur was sold in spite of claims by Mongolia that the dinosaur was removed from the Gobi Desert illegally.
The sellers claimed the 70 million year old fossil dinosaur was purchased legally but a New York court has ruled the fossil was imported to the United States illegally and must be returned to Mongolia.
The dinosaur fossil was unearthed in the Gobi Desert sometime around 2005 and removed to England illegally. It is thought to be one of the best preserved and most complete fossil skeleton of T. Bataar known. Tyrannosaurus Bataar is considered an Asian 'cousin' to Tyrannosaurus Rex."
