Coca-Cola Space Science Center staff members going to Australia, Mongolia to view Venus' transit across the sun | News | Columbus Ledger Enquirer: "Staff members of Columbus State University's Coca-Cola Space Science Center will be in Australia and Mongolia to view something on Tuesday that won't happen again for 105 years.

The transit of Venus occurs when the planet passes directly between earth and the sun.

The center is partnering with NASA and the International Space School Education Trust to provide a multi-continent webcast.

"I'm ready to ride a camel," Mary Johnson, the center's assistant director, said. She is flying to Mongolia by way of Seoul, Korea, on Saturday. She and other scientists will be camping in the Gobi Desert.

On Thursday, she was busy at the center getting telescopes and other equipment ready for the trip.

Johnson said that at this point the team is "just trying to make sure we haven't missed anything.""
